The story

How Megan got here.

“We don't bandage. We rebuild. High-conflict behavior is predictable, and anyone can learn to handle it.”

Megan Hunter, MBA

Megan Hunter started her career in a county attorney's office in a small town in western Nebraska, first as a child support caseworker and then as the office's child support enforcement manager. It was there, handling hundreds of families in conflict and training as a mediator, that she first noticed the pattern that would define her work: a small number of cases that never settled, no matter what the law or the facts said.

That experience took her to the Arizona Supreme Court's Administrative Office of the Courts, where she spent thirteen years in policy, legislation, and judicial training. She worked on child support guidelines, parent education programs, and international custody disputes, staffed the Arizona Legislature's Domestic Relations and Child Support Committees, and trained the family court judges, attorneys, and mediators who dealt with the state's hardest cases. She led the Arizona chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts as president, served as president of the Arizona Family Support Council, and was appointed by the Governor to the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners.

Looking for a better answer for the cases that would not settle, she brought a San Diego lawyer and therapist named Bill Eddy to Arizona to train judges and custody evaluators on his new theory of high-conflict personalities. The training worked. In 2008 the two of them founded the High Conflict Institute to put those skills in the hands of professionals everywhere, and Megan built the company that could deliver them: the training programs, the global trainer network, and Unhooked Media, the publishing house behind the most widely read books in the high-conflict field.

Her own expertise grew beyond the family courts. As more organizations came to HCI with the same problem in a different setting, Megan became the team's authority on high-conflict behavior in workplaces, customer service, government and public service, ombuds offices, universities, and religious organizations. She has trained professionals across the United States and in ten countries, from the Council of Australasian Tribunals to the Scottish family mediation community, and was invited to present New Ways for Families to members of the Israeli Knesset. In 2022 she created the Conflict Influencer® Certification, and in 2025 launched ConflictInfluencer.com to bring the same skills to the public.

As CEO, Megan leads HCI's strategy, growth, and trainer network, and is the primary partner for organizations bringing conflict readiness into their leadership and HR functions through HCI's Corporate Partnership program. She co-hosts the It's All Your Fault! podcast with Bill, is the author or co-author of six books, and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband.
